This week the Norrbotten’s regional winners in the Minecraft School Hackathon. For Sjulnässkolan 5b from PiteÃ¥ now awaits the national final. In Norrbotten, Boden Business Park is the financier together with Sparbanken Nord.

The School Hackathon is a community development competition using Minecraft Education as a teaching tool for students in grade 6. Here, participants have learned about societal challenges in an innovative way. For eight weeks, students have been given a class assignment to build a shared world based on a specific theme.
Last year, the project was carried out as a pilot in the municipality of Boden, this year 39 classes from Arvidsjaur, Boden, Gällivare, Luleå and Piteå participated. The winner was Sjulnässkolan 5b from Piteå. Second place went to Sjulnässkolan 5a in Piteå and third place to Mariaskolan 5a in Gällivare. Now the national final awaits on 6 December, where the winning classes from each county will face each other.
The concept was developed by Ung Företagsamhet Västerbotten, Technichus Science Center and Bron Innovation, but is also implemented in collaboration with several regional partners. In Norrbotten, Boden Business Park is financing the project for the second year in a row together with Sparbanken Nord.
Hanna Müller, business developer at Boden Business Park, was a member of the jury.
– Games are a creative tool for children to visualise the thoughts and ideas they have naturally, while being challenging in a fun way,” she says and continues:

Thomas Fägerman, CEO of Boden Business Park, is in favour of the Minecraft School Hackathon as it is in line with what Boden Business Park wants to achieve in Boden and Norrbotten.
– This is very good, it is part of our effort to awaken interest in digital creation at an early age as a basis for a future equal business life, he says.
