Visitor spending in Norrbotten continues to rise and reached a new record high of 14.8 billion kronor in 2025, an increase of 4 percent compared with the previous year. At the same time, Boden stands out with the largest percentage increase in the county. Visitor spending rose by 38 percent, from 673 million kronor to 929 million kronor. This is shown by new tourism accounts from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
Tourism accounts show how visitors’ spending contributes to the local economy. The statistics include, among other things, spending on lodging, dining out, shopping, transportation, and activities.
According to Anki Granström, chair of the board of the Boden Tourism Economic Association, this development is the result of several factors that have been at play over a long period of time.
“Boden’s strong growth is no coincidence. The establishment of new industries has increased interest in the area, while investments in visitor facilities, experiences, and events have made the destination more attractive. Add to that the dedicated marketing and sales efforts of many stakeholders over several years. Together, these factors have created a strong, positive trend that is now clearly reflected in the statistics.”
The increase in consumption also means higher revenues for companies in the tourism industry.
“This means increased revenue for hotels, restaurants, cafés, retail businesses, transportation companies, and tourism operators. The tourism industry has a ripple effect throughout the local economy and contributes to more jobs, investments, and a stronger business climate.”
This positive trend also creates favorable conditions for continued growth.
“These trends show that Boden has strong potential to continue growing as a destination. “By continuing to develop accommodation capacity, experiences, and events, we can attract even more visitors. This not only strengthens the tourism industry but also enhances Boden’s appeal as a place to live, work, start a business, and invest in,” says Anki Granström.
