Hive Digital Technologies vill fortsätta växa i Boden.
The property in question includes Hangar 326, where Hive Digital Technologies’ Swedish subsidiary currently operates its data centre. The property is owned by Bodens Utvecklings AB and is valued at approximately SEK 105 million.
The sale will allow Hive Digital Technologies to acquire the property and continue developing the facility to support next-generation digital services. To carry out the investments required for the next phase of growth, the company has long sought ownership of the facility.
“Hive was one of the early companies to establish operations in Boden and has been part of much of the journey we are currently on. The fact that the company is now choosing to make a long-term investment in its operations here is a strong endorsement of Boden’s attractiveness as a location for advanced technology and the industries of the future,” says Béatrice Öman, Municipal Commissioner of the Municipality of Boden.
Developing the data centre for future needs
Hive Digital Technologies plans to further develop the facility into a data centre with enhanced security, reliability and resilience. The investment will enable the company to expand its offerings in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud services and High Performance Computing (HPC).
Owning the property will provide the company with greater flexibility and long-term certainty to make the investments required for continued growth.
“We chose Boden in 2018 and have since experienced a strong commitment to sustainable development and circular solutions. That mindset was a key reason why we decided to establish our operations here in the first place,” says Johanna Thörnblad, Managing Director of Hive Digital Technologies’ Swedish subsidiary.

She also highlights the company’s ambition to remain an active contributor to the local community.
“We want to continue being a positive force in Boden and contribute beyond our own operations. That is why we engage in the local community, including supporting Boden Hockey and local associations. We believe in Boden and the opportunities that lie ahead. That is why we continue to invest here,” says Johanna Thörnblad.
Strengthening Boden’s competitiveness
Data centres form a critical part of the digital infrastructure that enables many of the digital services relied upon by businesses and individuals every day.
According to the company, the investment will help make Boden even more competitive and attractive for businesses and organisations that depend on advanced digital infrastructure.
Hive Digital Technologies has also been working closely with the Municipality of Boden and RISE to explore solutions for recovering and reusing surplus heat generated by the data centre. Similar initiatives are already being implemented within the company’s operations in Canada.
“We operate in a global market and have many options when deciding where to invest. That is why it is particularly rewarding to receive continued confidence in developing our operations here in Boden. We are convinced that this investment will strengthen both our own business and Boden’s position as an attractive location for the digital infrastructure of the future,” says Johanna Thörnblad.
For Hive Digital Technologies, the transaction represents the next step in the company’s long-term commitment to Boden. For the municipality, it means that an established operator will have improved conditions to continue developing activities in a sector expected to become increasingly important as demand for AI services, computing power and digital infrastructure continues to grow.
