The Municipality of Boden has recruited a new Head of Development and Deputy Municipal Manager. On August 18, Thomas Sundqvist will take office – with the task of coordinating the social transition and leading the municipality’s strategic development work.
Thomas Sundqvist has previously worked closely with the municipality in the establishment work around Stegra and has many years of experience from both business and the public sector.

“Broad experience and deep understanding”
As Head of Development, Thomas Sundqvist will be responsible for coordinating cross-sectoral development work in close dialog with the municipal manager, heads of administration and the municipal companies. The assignment also includes being a strategic link between the municipality and external actors – from industry and academia to authorities and civil society.
– We are strengthening the organization with a person who has both broad experience and deep understanding of Boden’s conditions. Thomas has already been an important part of our societal transition, and in his new role he will have the opportunity to take an even greater holistic approach. This gives us good continuity at a time when the pace continues to increase,” says Magnus Åkerlund, Head of the Municipality of Boden.
New structure for strategic development
At the same time, the former business function is being developed into a more unified governance model. The role of business manager is replaced by a collaboration group consisting of municipal manager Magnus Åkerlund, CEO of Boden Business Park, Thomas Fägerman, and the newly appointed development manager.
The group has a joint responsibility to drive the municipality’s strategic business work forward and contribute to a long-term approach and anchoring in Boden’s social transition.
The former Head of Economic Development, Mats Berg, will leave his post on June 30, but will continue as CEO of the municipality of Boden’s group companies until the end of the year.
