The green societal transition in Boden is becoming increasingly visible in the local business community. Around half of the surveyed companies already report tangible business opportunities – and some are preparing to double their workforce.
A recent survey of Boden-based businesses shows that a majority see clear benefits from the ongoing industrial development in the municipality. 48 percent state that they have gained more business, often in the form of new customers, increased demand, or collaborations related to the establishment of Stegra and other companies in the area.
One of the companies clearly noticing the impact is LN Industrimontage, which specializes in the manufacturing, repair, and maintenance of machinery and equipment for the mining, steel, and paper industries.
“We’ve seen a noticeable upswing since autumn 2024. Several of our assignments are directly linked to developments at Boden Industrial Park,” says CEO Michael Lyckhagen.
The company currently has around 25 employees in Boden – but is now planning for significant growth.
“We’re constantly hiring, and during 2025 we expect to recruit another 20 to 30 people,” he adds.
He also highlights the role of the municipality in the developments taking place.
“The municipality is accessible and has helped us make the right connections. There’s always someone we can turn to, and that support has made a real difference. We’re very satisfied.”
New ventures taking shape
Hydronord, operating in Boden since 1998, is also entering a new chapter. The company was founded by Bengt Bernedal, and his son Alf Bernedal has been part of the business since 1999. Until 2024, Hydronord operated as a franchisee for a larger brand, but following changes in business terms, Alf now runs the company independently – in partnership with the supplier Dunlop Hiflex.
“We’re rebuilding the business step by step. There’s strong demand in the market, and it felt like the right time to move forward with a new structure,” says Alf Bernedal.
Hydronord provides industrial services with a focus on hydraulic equipment – and the relaunch has gotten off to a solid start.
“Things have gone really well. My revenue in the first year is about the same as before. Next up, I plan to invest in a new service vehicle and hire another employee,” he says.
While Hydronord is not yet a direct supplier to Stegra, it serves clients who are – and considers itself a natural part of the growing ecosystem of companies surrounding the industrial zone.
“We’ve retained our old clients, and new inquiries are starting to come in. It’s a promising start.”
Solid foundation for continued growth
In 2024, Boden was named the top municipality in Norrbotten for business climate – for the fourth consecutive year. In the national ranking by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv), Boden placed 51st out of 290 municipalities, receiving consistently high marks for service, responsiveness, and procurement practices.
This strong business climate, built through long-term collaboration and strategic focus, has become a key enabler for companies looking to grow in step with the ongoing green transition.
