Companies in Boden continue to give high marks to the municipality’s work for a good business climate. In this year’s survey from the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Boden comes second in Norrbotten – just behind Älvsbyn, which now takes over first place.
Every year, the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise measures how entrepreneurs perceive the conditions for running a business in their home municipality. For Boden, the 2025 results show a summary assessment of 4.0 – a strong level that places the municipality well above the county average. However, this means that Älvsbyn, which this year reaches 4.1, takes over the lead in Norrbotten.
“It is clear that we would have liked to retain the first place, but at the same time it is nice to see Älvsbyn’s hard work pay off. We know how much commitment it takes. The business climate is something we build together – when it works in one municipality, it strengthens us all in the region,” says Mats Berg, Head of Business Development in Boden Municipality.
Dialogue with municipality has improved
This year’s survey shows that 82% of businesses in Boden have had contact with the municipality in the past year – mainly on issues such as permits, supervision, advice and procurement. Dialogue with the municipality received an improved rating compared to last year, as did the perception of security and the school’s cooperation with the local business community.
At the same time, some areas are lagging behind, such as procurement, human resources and skills.
Businesses have also clearly identified what is most important for the future: more housing, better road networks, more skilled workers, lower municipal fees and simpler procurement processes.
“This is a valuable input for us. We see that many things are working well, but we also take on board what can be improved. The business climate is shaped in dialog – and we continue to move forward together,” says Mats Berg.
