How is trade doing in Boden – and what does the development of the city center say about the future of the municipality?

Boden continues to be one of the country’s leading municipalities in terms of small business climate. In this year’s Small Business Index 2025, the municipality is ranked 15th out of 290, an improvement from the previous year. This means that Boden is the third best municipality in Norrbotten, after Älvsbyn and Arjeplog, and the second best in the country among low-commuting municipalities close to major cities.

The railway to Boden Industrial Park is now complete. The project, carried out in close collaboration between the municipality of Boden and Polar Structure, has been completed one month ahead of schedule and under budget.

When the tender for meal deliveries to the Swedish Migration Agency’s accommodation was decided, the Boden company Almost There was the winner. The contract involves delivering and serving 1,200 meals a day, all year round, for four years – and the company doubling its workforce.

Green steel is not just an environmental effort – it is the next big business opportunity, and the world’s first large-scale green steel plant is currently being built in Boden.
