H2 Green Steel revolutionizes the steel industry with the world’s first green steel plant and is now seeking hundreds of new employees. HR Manager Anette Sundström shared more about the recruitment plans during Friday’s business breakfast in Sävast.
H2 Green Steel (H2GS) is a central part of the green societal transformation and is currently building the world’s first large-scale green steel plant. This plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 95 percent compared to traditional blast furnace steel production. The company is now entering an intensive phase of personnel recruitment for its new facility at Boden Industrial Park (BIP).
During the business breakfast at Boden Business Park, Anette Sundström, HR Manager at H2 Green Steel, presented the company’s future plans and recruitment needs.
“We are now entering a phase where we are accelerating the work of building up the organization that will operate the facility, in parallel with the construction of our green steel plant in Boden”, she said.
H2GS plans to recruit approximately 600 people over the coming year to staff various parts of the operation. The goal is to have around 1500 employees in place by early 2026. To achieve this, the company has set an ambitious recruitment timeline, with a strong emphasis on creating a diversified and gender-balanced workplace where the gender distribution is 50/50 between women and men of different ages.
The company is looking for a broad range of skills and roles to operate the green steel plant’s platforms. The main job categories include:
- Technicians
- Assemblers
- Mechanic
- Electrician
- Process operators
- Maintenance staff
In addition to these, there is a need for specific expertise in electrolysis, DRI production, casting and hot rolling, as well as in digitalization and machine learning. The company is also seeking general professional skills in areas such as finance, purchasing, and recruitment.
“We will now more actively seek, for example, process operators, technicians, electricians, and mechanics for the operation of various parts of our green steel plant”, said Anette Sundström, urging those interested to keep an eye out for upcoming recruitment campaigns.
“We will post more job vacancies going forward and make targeted efforts related to our recruitment of personnel.”
H2 Green Steel plays a significant and important role in the green societal transition in northern Sweden. heir intensive recruitment efforts will not only support their operational needs but also contribute to the broader industrial and economic development, both in the region and across the country.
In Boden, there is also intensified work to meet the green societal transition. For the municipality, this represents a leap in development that under normal circumstances would correspond to 20 years of community development. This is now happening over the next three years, which brings both challenges and opportunities.
