Boden Business Park starts meeting place with startup program

Seven new gaming companies operating in Norrbotten. That is one of the goals of the meeting place NEXT, which starts at Boden Business Park.
- We want to activate talented creators who today sit at home and create a place for people with an interest in game development, says Emil Sandberg, business developer at Boden Business Park.

If you rewind the band for only three years, there was no glimpse of the gaming industry in Boden. Thanks to passionate and competent pioneers, together with Boden Business Park, Boden currently has over 110 students for the autumn of 2020 and eight gaming companies, two of which are from the USA. The effect and investment in the gaming industry in Boden has meant that more local talent stays and people from other parts of Sweden and the world choose to move here.

Now the next step is taken at Boden Business Park. By seizing the biggest challenges in the gaming industry and bringing with it the biggest players in Norrbotten, the meeting place Next starts at Boden Business Park. The concept is about creating conditions for talent in Norrbotten to develop ideas and bring games to market.

- Lone developers can get a place to meet that is set up with equipment and mentors. This increases the chances that the next gaming success will come from Norrbotten, says Emil Sandberg, business developer at Boden Business Park.

The three-year project is financed together with Sparbanken Nord - Framtidsbanken, the Längmanska Entrepreneurship Fund and the Norrbotten Region.

- They have all been involved in the development of the gaming industry in Boden and are the strongest players in cultural and creative industries in Norrbotten, says Emil Sandberg.

Erika Mattsson is Head of Sustainability and Society at Sparbanken Nord.
- We set aside money annually for development and want to be involved and influence the future of the place we live and work at. Participating in and investing in a new industry for the region therefore feels just right, also in the developing environment that Boden Business Park has created for an interesting and attractive industry for young people.

It's about putting Norrbotten and Boden on the big map in the gaming industry. The meeting place is built based on the challenges and opportunities that the Computer Games industry and Norrbotten have.
- With the investment, we ensure that we create opportunities for more people to work, live and work in Norrbotten, says Emil Sandberg.

The concept will also help the gaming industry to become more equal.
- We want to show both that there are role models for girls in games and that there is a future, which can make you continue.

After the end of the project, the goal is for the investment to have resulted in seven new gaming companies operating in Norrbotten, more than 35 new jobs and over 100 new active players in the gaming industry in the region.
